SDC experience

Heya every1! Guess what? I went 2 da' Singapore Discovery Centre last week! 4 NE ambassador training NEway. Had fun there. We had FREE admission 2 all exhibits cuz the training fees were paid by the school. I, Enid and Howe Wee drank bubble tea everyday. 3 days training mah. So on the 1st day, I drank Green Apple bubble tea and Peach bubble tea. On
the 2nd day, I drank Oreo cookies and cream bubble tea. On the 3rd day, I drank Strawberry bubble tea. Naise, eh? Spent an overload of money those 3 days cuz I bought snacks & pizza 2. Stuff sold there r expensive u no. A slice of pizza costs S$2. A bubble tea costs S$1.50. Cookies and cream bubble tea costs S$2.50. Got the Oreo bubble tea for S$2. The uncle overheard I and Enid talkin about it being 2 expensive, so he said that he would give us a pack of Nips. But I hated peanuts so I said no thanks. Instead, he sold it to us for S$2. So there, my food schedule.

--

You must be wondering what I did there. There are 2 sessions. 1 in morning, 1 in afternoon.

1st day, 1st session...
Ice-breaking session and creating mass games. I'll just tell you the steps of carrying out a game.

Carrying out the game
1. Explain
2. Demonstrate
3. Question
4. Try
5. Play
6. Conclusion
7. Feedback

1st day, 2nd session...

A game of Pingo (similar to Bingo), then did an activity about the Unity Pavillion exhibits. Had a fun time @ the exhibits.

2nd day, 1st session...

Public speaking and presentation talk. Also learnt about what kind of a presenter are you. Sorta boring. Did an activity: Write a speech about 1 of the 3 topics:

1. School hours are too long.
2. Having cartoons as a compulsory subject in school.
3. Banning Barney from television.

All the groups either did topic 1 or 3. Only our group did topic 2. Weird...

2nd day, 2nd session...

Learn about teamwork and what kind of leader are you. Did an activity: Leading the blind. 4~5 people would pick cards: Red leader, blue leader, red follower, blue follower, observer. If playing in 4s, have only 1 leader. The followers will be blindfolded then led 2 envelopes containing puzzles. They will empty it. The leader's job is to guide the followers to completing the puzzle. The leader CANNOT touch the followers or the puzzle pieces. Observer has to see if any member breaks the rule. 1st group to completed the puzzle wins. Fun, isn't it? I was the follower, boo-hoo.

3rd day, 1st session...

Briefing on how to be a guide. Dos and Don'ts on being a guide.Blah blah blah... (talks about how to be a guide, what to do and not to do...)

3rd day, 2nd session...

Prepared for the mini guided tour we were supposed to give as part of grading whether to get the badge or certificate of an NE ambassador. Wrote our own speeches. Free access to all exhibits. I did about the Multi-cultural Dance Studio. My speech went something lyk tat:

Good afternoon everyone. Welcome to the Singapore Discovery Centre. My name is ---- ---. In front of you, you can see the Multi-cultural dance studio.
Here, you can dance 4 types of cultural dances, namely Chinese dance, Malay dance, Indian dance and Portugese Eurasian dance. First, there will be a teacher on the screen to demonstrate the dance moves. You will follow. Then, when the whole dance routine is completed, you will have to dance with the music.
Before I end, I would like to tell you the NE message for this exhibit: We must preserve racial and religious harmony. Also, I would like to know if you have any questions about this exhibit. (answered a question) If there are no more questions, I would like to end here.

What do you think? Ok, then, we had our break. Howe Wee said that the Visionarium would be starting. I wolfed down me pizza and dashed there in time for the activity. We (a few other NE ambassadors) hooted and cheered when the activity was almost completed, but we had to go back to class for a debriefing and head home.

~The End~

The whole activity was damn cool. Wanna go again. I'll go do something else. Bye~

xoxo,
Roxanne
